In The 1990's block paving became very popular. I was pricing at least five jobs per week on average.
I always used Marshals paving blocks because they always replaced any crumbly, faulty batches.
Over the years I noticed that block paving would start to channel where the vehicle wheels would run. They would always get full of weeds and start looking shabby with need of maintenance.
In the 2000's Indian stone became popular and again I have found myself pricing quite a few Indian stone drive way jobs.
over the past twenty years I have found that the problems with Indian stone on drive ways are mainly the pointing coming loose.
I have remedied this by moving from sand and cement mortar to jointing compound.
I do still get the odd loose flag but this is rare if you make sure the bed is solid and the flags are bedded well.
In conclusion, even though I have kept this very short, Indian stone on driveways, if done correctly needs far less maintenance and keeps its looks and structure far better than block paving.
It is also cheaper and easier to install.
